Pledging event on taking commitments to defend media freedom

Media freedom, a core pillar of functioning democracy is in global decline, hastened by repressive laws introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic. The world continues to be an unsafe place for journalists. According to Reporters Without Borders, year 2021 counted record number of journalists, 488, being detained in the world, while another 65 are being held hostage. Despite a decline in killings of journalists, nearly one journalist a week, on average, is still being killed in connection with their work.
The pledging event will draw together the commitments on how to improve the situation of media freedom and safety of journalists. Make your own commitment!
