Alar Karis is the President of the Republic of Estonia, the former Auditor-General, the Director of the Estonian National Museum, the Rector of the University of Tartu and the Estonian University of Life Sciences. President Karis earned his degrees in veterinary medicine and parasitology, he has worked as a researcher at the Estonian Biocentre of the Academy of Sciences and at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of Tartu and as a researcher in Germany, Great Britain and the Netherlands. Karis has published many research papers on molecular genetics and developmental biology.
